So speaking of these elders, THEY GOT TO PLAY DANNY BOY FOR DEVO SUNDAY NIGHT! We hadn't heard anything for a while, so we all just assumed that Danny Boy just wasn't appropriate. But they made it! We were SO proud! All of the elders got to sit up front, so us sisters sat as close as we could. I really wanted to have a giant foam finger and signs for them. During their performance I just wanted to stand up and yell, "THAT'S MY BOYS!" My heart was beating so quickly as they played. I was so nervous for them! But they did great and EVERYONE loved them! After devo all I wanted t do was hug them, but alas, a simple handshake had to suffice.
So last Tuesday Elder Scott came and spoke to us! He talked about prayer. It was awesome. He used Nephi as an example and I loved that. One of my favorite things that he said was that Nehi didnt passively wait for help. He acted. And that's so great because yes, we can rely on God to help us with our struggles. But we just can't hand them over to Him. We still have to work hard to do better and to learn. Then he'll help us. Faith without works is dead. It was a great talk. The choir was great too! Apparently the camera zoomed in right on me and Soeur Monson! Woohoo! Tonight they're doing ANOTHER broadcast! We hope it's another general authority. The choir is singing Joseph Smith's First Prayer. The arrangement is beautiful. We're excited.
Lessons with Marc and Lupe have been going really well. Especially the last two with Lupe. She's golden. We've been using scriptures a lot more and it's really helped. The Spirit has been really strong. Even though Lupe is actually Soeur McKay, I'm kind of sad I won't be able to see her get baptized. But I guess it's good prep for the field. I'll be able to see people progress and gain testimonies but I might get transferred right before they are baptized. C'est dommage. The past few lessons with Marc have been tough but good. He's still struggling with his faith in God. Whether He exists or not. But we've gotten to know where he is spiritually and have been able to help him. Only two lessons left! It's really sad. All of our teachers are the best and we love them so much. Also Soeur McKay is a kindred spirit. She loves Anne of Green Gables.
So Saturday Frère Davis taught a class and the last 30 minutes he shared some stories and his testimony. It was awesome. He talked about how at the beginning of his mission, every time they were rejected, he would take his anger out on the people and say negative things about them. This affected their success and his french. He finally decided to change. In summary he said, "Never criticize the people the Lord has entrusted you to love." And I loved that! Especially because I've really trying to have charity right now. He's the best. Another great thing he said yesterday was, "The biggest cause of unhappiness is people giving up what they really need and desire for that they want now." So true.
Sunday we were able to watch a broadcast of the rededication of the Ogden Utah temple. So lovely. It was my first dedication since Nauvoo 12 years ago. President Monson and Elder Bednar both spoke, as well as the temple president, his wife, a member of the seventy, and the president of the general primary. Elder Bednar spoke about how the things of the world don't matter in the temple. We are all the same in God's eyes. He loves us all. President Monson used stories to tell how special temples are. He's so cute.
We got new Tahitians! Two districts! One has 4 sisters and 3 elders, while the other consists of 8 elders. The sisters are so cute and we love them so much. Poor things are here for 11 weeks. Til December! I don't envy them. We got some cute pictures with them. Also there's a picture of me that is just lovely. Somehow the sister who took the picture managed to snap it at the right moment. You'll see it. I think I'm making that face because the grass was wet and I got water in my shoe. It's a gem.
I can bring my violin! I'm so excited! But mom and dad, before you send them, I need new strings. I need Dominant brand for G,D, and A. Ball end. For E, I need Pirastro olive gold. That will be ball end as well. Keep the music in there!
